Official: Shane Del Rosario vs Stipe Miocic - UFC 146

Postby doyousukadaweena » Tue Apr 24, 2012 9:33 am

The Alistair Overeem effect is now officially complete. After setting off a chain reaction with his failed pre-fight drug test, which forced changes to four of the five heavyweight scraps appearing in the UFC 146 pay-per-view broadcast, the final adjustment to the May 26th lineup was made late Monday night.

Stipe Miocic has agreed to step in and face Shane Del Rosario (Pictured) inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Del Rosario was initially scheduled to make his big league premiere against Gabriel Gonzaga, but “Napao” was reassigned to Roy Nelson earlier in the day. “Big Country” was originally slated to welcome Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva into the Octagon until Sunday when Silva was bumped to the card’s co-main event against Cain Velasquez.

Silva received the nod because Velasquez’s opponent, Frank Mir, was promoted to the show’s main attraction opposite champion Junior dos Santos. And of course, all of this drama was ignited when Overeem’s domino fell.

Del Rosario is perfect through his first 11 professional bouts. “No Limits” hasn’t been seen since submitting Lavar Johnson in February 2011.

Speaking of unblemished résumés, Miocic has won all eight of his fights. His last two contests have been under the UFC’s watch. The 29-year-old posted a decision win over Joey Beltran in his promotional debut and earned ‘Knockout of the Night’ honors for disposing of Phil de Fries in February.

Here is the card’s finalized roster:

Preliminary Card:

Mike Brown vs. Daniel Pineda

Dan Hardy vs. Duane Ludwig

Glover Teixeira vs. Kyle Kingsbury

(FX 8PM ET/5PM PT)

Paul Sass vs. Jacob Volkmann

Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. C.B. Dollaway

Edson Barboza vs. Evan Dunham

Diego Brandao vs. Darren Elkins

Main Card:

(Pay-Per-View 10PM ET/7PM PT)

Shane Del Rosario vs. Stipe Miocic

Stephan Struve vs. Mark Hunt

Roy Nelson vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva

Frank Mir vs. Junior dos Santos (UFC Heavyweight Champion)

JDS is ducking Reem

Stipe Miocic vs Del Rosario should be an awesome fight. A golden gloves boxer vs a muay thai world champion. Back in the 80s there was a competition in which Thai boxers beat traditional kickboxers and American boxers beat Thai boxers. Sort of like rock paper scissors. These guys obviously have a mix of skills though so we shall see. I have Miocic winning via NCAA 1 level wrestling and CroCop shorts
Looking for Sig Bets, I got:
Cat Zingano > Miesha Tate (Tron)
Cormier > Mir
Vitor > Rockhold (Tron)
Werdum > Mir
Cezar > Dollaway

Should be a war. Two undefeated, good, young fighters locking horns. Overeem actually didn't fuck this entire card. Still shaped out pretty good.

I'll be pulling for SDR. Guy had showed the most promise of any new HW prospect before his accident. Would love to see him fulfill his potential but who knows what shape he's in coming back after such serious injuries and lengthy lay off. Guy was about to fight Cormier before that happened. Who knows where his career could've been right now.

happy they got Miocic to step in. That being said my enthusiasm for this event has gone way down. Every fight is less exciting. JDS beats mir. Cain beats bigfoot. Nelson beats Gonzaga. At least this one seems like a better pairing--i got SDR taking it.

Agree JDS wil KTFO Mir; but I am not sold on the other two. Gonzaga can out grapple Nelson, but Nelson has the striking edge most likely. Cain vs Bigfoot is a tricky one. If Bigfoot can get him down I think he can beat him, but on the feet it is much more even and I don't think Bigfoot can get Cain down. The question is can Cain KO Bigfoot? I doubt it.

It's quite an intriguing card this , cant wait , the distance between Edgar - Bendo and Jones - Evens was unbearable

Miocic, mainly because of the layoff for DR; and Miocic has very good wrestling. With HW strikers though you never know.

If the old SDR returns, I think it will be an early TKO in his favor.

if melvin's speed was a problem for dunham, no doubt edson's will be too. Plus his level of striking is quite a ways above melvin's as well. I smell early Ko for edson
