I would say yes. I do think Silva can pass Fedor though, and can see why some people think he has. IMO I just think Fedor was just as dominant for several more years and fights.

In a Silva/Fedor comparison though I think if Silva came out and fought like he did in this fight and turned on the heat and went for the kill in all of his fights he would be just as popular as Fedor ever was (maybe more just because more people watch the sport now). That aggression combined with finishing is IMO what made people love to watch Fedor. Silva COULD do it, but will he? Guess we will see if he fights Chael again.

too add to that, i think his opponents would all be caught off guard because they havent even figured out how to deal with his defensive style, imagine if they had to try and train for him not knowing if he'll come out and be really aggressive.

the advantages that he has over every single fighter is undeniable. no matter who you match him up with, they're fucked. that goes for LHW's too.

Absolute worst game plan by Okami. He spends a whole training camp with Sonnen to exploit the obvious weakness and he doesnt go for a single TD besides a half effort one against the cage????

If you wanted to strike the whole time dont train with a wrestler, go to Holand or thailand!!!

Am i supposed to be impressed that Silva won in a striking match against Okami?

No you're supposed to be impressed by the fact that the very PRESENCE and reputation of Anderson caused Okami to lose all confidence in his game-plan. Take downs have to be set up. You can't just get it because you're a wrestler. You have to understand timing in order to pull off a nice shot. How in the hell was Okami supposed to set anything up? Plus when you go for a shot, you're opening yourself up for a knee, uppercut, or sharp elbow and if you're facing somebody like Anderson Silva, there's not a doubt in your mind that he can accomplish that. He tried multiple times in their first fight and only got 1 out of 4 if I remember correctly. Despite what many people say, Anderson actually does have good TDD. Chael had about a 46% success rate, so that means Anderson stopped more than half of his take downs. Anderson even stuffed Dan Henderson who competed in the Olympics.

Anderson caused the fight to happen on the feet in one way or another which is just like a wrestler causing the fight to happen on the ground by taking somebody down. So what, are we supposed to be unimpressed by Jake Shields submitting people who aren't as good as him at grappling? No, because Shields caused the fight to take place on the ground much like Anderson caused this fight to happen on the feet. So yes, it was impressive. Okami would have never gotten Anderson down and out of the 4 minutes and 37 seconds they've fought, Yushin has only accomplished that for about 20 seconds. Okami is a world-class fighter who was 10-2 in the UFC before facing Anderson, and he has NEVER been physically dominated like that.

This fight wasn't one-sided because Yushin sucks, it was one-sided because Anderson is the greatest. Is that really a difficult concept to grasp?

i will guarantee you one thing and that is if anderson silva does not walk out wearing a gi when he fights sonnen again that rematch will look very fucking different than the first fight...

am i supposed to be impressed that you try to find a way to discredit anderson silva everytime he wins?
and then make excuses for gsp when he fights and cant finish his opponents...

its ok to like different fighters, but its obvious to me your sheer hatred for silva is probably projecting because of your own favorite fighters shortcomings.

Yes it was fantastic game planning by Okami to stay on the outside and strike

Apparently Okami decided to not listen to Sonnen and go in fighting like Forest.

actually the first thing he did was close the distance and tried to get the fight to the ground. he ate a bunch of knees in the process and wanted no part of the clinch. that was his gameplan and it failed because he was fighting someone who is so much better than him.

its not even easier to blame okami rather than give silva credit....yet people still do it?? :?

He did far better in the clinch than he ever was going to do staying on the outside. And he didnt eat anything hard while doing that. The only way he could win on the feet was constant pressure against the cage, not pulling a Forrest, cant blame Okami for that, his corner told him to stay on the outside.

I just checked, and amazingly they both have 7 dec is 31 wins... pretty crazy. I realize there's more that goes in to it. Fedor ALWAYS goes in for the kill. Anderson wait for them to come to him, but I think Anderson is way more deadly, throws fewer strikes and it takes fewer for him to finish. And in many of his dec wins we all know that he was more than capable of finishing...it wasn't a matter of whether he could, but as I explained before, I believe he was just making a point and making sure that any and all future opponents would bring it to him.. And I think that worked brilliantly, and few will remember those "disappointing" fights...which to me were still pretty impressive because of how much he out classed and toyed with them. Granted, very frustrating because we all wanted to see him end it...but he made his point, and fucked Dana's ass which I love.

Fedor had a longer streak, but I'd argue there were more straight up cans mixed in, and the top ranked HW's he fought just weren't that great...the division was extremely thin. Fedor I believe has been passed more so from the evolution of the sport than him getting old. Anderson has only separated himself further...which is fucking crazy for someone 36 years old to do in a very quickly evolving sport such as this. Say what you will about the MW division (no where near as weak as HW), but he's done it in the UFC which is by far the premier promotion for someone to defend their title in... Plus I think Fedor's fights were generally much more competitive, and I don't want to say "lucky"...but I think if Fedor went through that run again I think he wouldn't do the same thing. Anderson is head and shoulders above the other guys, and I think you line them up again Silva knocks them all down again.

(Sorry to get off topic...I even said specifically that I wasn't getting in to a debate..lol. You should have just said, "Yes, Fedor is still my GOAT." I would have said, "OK.")
