for me it's not about feeling "cool" it's about not hearing the words ultimate fighting used in place of mixed martial arts and I don't want to have a conversation with some random guy that only knows the champs because they've been on t.v. every week because I'm wearing one of my Clinch Gear shirts

i dunno... it's an "underground" or "fringe" sport right now and the majority of people at the bars watching the fights still don't really know anybody other then the top guys. yes, the more mainstream the sport goes the more casual fans, but that also means there will be more knowledgeable fans as well. seems to me that the ratio of "knowledgeable" fans to "casual" fans stays about the same regardless of how popular the sport is.

whatever dude. it's just kind of sad that MMA isn't to the point where they would mention that a guy is the younger brother of the best American mixed martial artist. i mean it'd be one thing if jon wasn't there, but he was being shown on camera and they didn't say anything, it was weird. i mean they even mentioned his older brother arthur, who is a BACKUP on the ravens, yet didnt bring up that his other brother was one of the best martial artists on the planet.
most people still look at MMA like UFC 1 type shit
yea, i know. like i said, MMA still has a ways to go before it's an accepted mainstream sport.
true but the longer the better
true dat. Although it had better get massive sooner or later as I keep telling everyone that it will be the world's number 2 sport. WHICH IT WILL, but I don't have to tell you guys that...

It's pretty evident that ESPN hates MMA. Most other news covers it as least a little. Even newspapers up here in Canada have results and stories on some bigger and local fighters.
Anger he smiles towering in shiny metallic purple armour
Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground
Blue are the life giving waters, taken for granted
They quietly understand

I totally agree with the threadstarter. Imagine if that was Mayweather's little brother. They would have made sure people knew the relation. But hey that's what makes us better than the casual fan. We are the diehards.

I do sense some negativity from ESPN. I recall not all that long ago they had their not top 10 list as they sometimes do from time to time and it was a clip of the fight where they forgot to lock the cage and both fighters fell out and got KO'd. They said it was UFC fighting when in reality it was just some farm league. I wonder if there is some history with ESPN and the UFC??

Once ESPN realizes the money that can be made off of MMA like "soccer" aka futbol, they will respect MMA more. MMA is still a toddler compared to every other sport. Money rules all business.
