Sounds like a pretty badass undertaking man. I'll be interested to know how you set up your gym, I might even try and copy your layout. I tend to have the same problem, I lose weight rapidly when I don't exercise and get pretty skinny but pack on muscle mass pretty quickly with any kind of routine training. I've always envied people that actually GAIN weight when they are lazy.

155 lbs. is my weight class, my walking around weight is 170-180...I'll cut the rest in the last 2 weeks.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I would rather be fatter than a bean pole.

Sorry for putting the thread in the wrong place, I was wondering why it wasn't posting.

Haha I'm quite the opposite, not naturally skinny at all. Its definitely easier for my body type to add muscle mass than someone who's naturally thin, but if I don't keep up with it, I get fat easy.

To the OP, if you need it, there are plenty of mass gainers available in any supplement store that helps a lot. I'd also suggest keeping your diet as clean as possible. Adding mass doesn't mean just gorging. Like you've suggested, you have to eat a lot more consistently (about every 3 hours) to maintain he energy levels for training and recovery.

Powerblock adjustable dumbells - Stage 2 (5lbs-90lbs)
Set of Olympic free weights 2 of each - 45lbs, 35lbs, 25lbs, 10lbs, 5lbs, 2.5lbs
Olympic bar and ez curl bar
adjustable bench

I built a squat rack using a system similar to this:
http://tnation.t-nation.com/free_online ... uat_rack_1

Far cheaper than any retail option, plus it opens up a ton of weight training possibilities

I created a pulley system on the squat rack so I could do cable oriented exercises as well. I can't find my camera cable or I'd upload images, but its pretty straight forward, similar to this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxoMfjEU5jw

I have a heavy bag and speed bag combo as well. Cardio typically consisted of skipping, running and biking.

I started out with what I could afford and added things as I could/needed them. You can definitely make it work

Best of luck!

What this guy said, plus this:

TRX is also a good workout system that can help build mass using your own body weight. I think it was created by the Navy Seals. It's basically two straps hanging from the ceiling with grips at the end for your hands or feet. You position your body to determine how much weight you want to use per exercise. It practically doesn't take up any space and it build good core strength.

Craigslist.

I'm in the process of re-setting up my home gym also. (Maybe this could be an official 'home gym' thread?)
I'm focusing mainly on cardio/cutting fat. I'm 6', 195lb. Should (used to) be 170 when I'm in shape. However, 2 boys and a biz will change your priorities.

What I have:
100lb heavy bag
60lb bag that I hang lower to practice kicks
Double end bag (these are great for working cardio, keeping you moving while working on your hands)
Jump rope (necessity)
No speed bag yet (waiting to get a heavy duty one, cause the chincy ones are almost counterproductive)
Dumbells 5-45
Pull-up bar and a bunch of misc. resistant bands.
Need an adjustable bench and a big ass mirror. Definitely recommend getting a large mirror. Helps symmetry, form and can be a good motivator.

I think if your were experiencing depression there will be no better cure than getting back in shape. Good luck homes!
I will try and contribute to this thread in the future once I make some progress on my end.

I do have a 100 lb. boxing bag. Gonna see what I can get done. I am gonna need a whole bunch of stuff. We'll see what I can get done.

Problems are personal health related, depression being the main cause, but I am better now...just need to recover and improve, and I love MMA...I love training MMA, and I need to do something that makes me happy while getting in shape.

Well then go to an MMA gym.

Again, going to an MMA gym isn't possible ATM.

For medical reasons? If your going to workout at home then why not just go to a real gym? I am not trying to bust your balls I just don't get it. Is it a money thing?

No, not a money thing, more of a time and distance issue.

Well I know what you mean there. If you look at some of the fighters in the UFC and know there backgrounds, you'll find out that most of them slept in there cars to train at gyms, or slept in the gym. It is all about how much you want to do something.
